Sunday Morning Nuisance

They call to me through the dream-filled haze.

I roll over and see a hint of dawn peeking through the blinds.

Against my will, they pull me from my slumber.

The pillow covers my ears but it’s too late.

I’m already awake.

  1. Yes, those morning noises are not conducive to sleeping in. I loved the way you phrased it, “against my will” , such great words and images there.

    1. Haha – Thanks! I honestly didn’t know if I was going to think of anything and then I thought of those damn birds yesterday morning! I’m just cranky and need a nap 🙂

      1. I feel that way too today..we had very early mornings this weekend and I need a good sleep. Maybe tonight? 🙂

      2. Here’s to hoping! I plan on having a glass (or three) of wine which usually helps 🙂

    1. Hello! I commented on your post already. Haha! I really appreciate the award. I’m bad at passing along the love nowadays but I really appreciate you taking the time to throw some my way 🙂

      Have a great day!!

  2. It is a good post indeed for the gargleblast….came across this on the grid:) I too have written for Yeahwrite.me#160 gargleblast

    1. Haha! Definitely not! Ahh, I miss camping though 🙂 I just have this damn tree outside my bedroom window and this one bird loves serenading me in the morning… I’m going to have to train my dog to kill birds, I think.

      1. Hah! My dogs are useless. Don’t worry. The birds are safe … for now [insert evil laugh here].

  3. It’s eerie here in the winter because I wake up to total silence outside. Then when it starts to warm up a bit, I hear the birds start chirping and am so excited because that means that warm weather is coming. By August, I want to purchase earplugs and sound proof my walls because they drive me nuts at 5am! lol

    1. Hah! Yeah, it’s warm here most of the time so they never stop! We have ducks and geese here as well. Quite the party at my place 🙂

  4. Early bird gets the worm while annoying us with their chirping in the process. I hate this especially on Saturday mornings.

    1. Oh yes – I don’t mind it during the week but being up before the sun on the weekend makes me so very angry!!

  5. I have such a love/hate feeling towards that beautiful sound. On one hand, it’s a fresh start but I’m never ready to get up. I do the pillow thing to drown it out but it’s always too late. This is, obviously, incredibly relatable and such a fun read!

  6. I can relate to this. I usually only keep my windows open for a few weeks each spring and fall, so I like hearing the birds so clearly in the morning. The lawnmowers, though, ugh!

      1. Hey – I’m from SC. I know my way around a firearm… I just want to know EVERYTHING before I get one of my own.

  7. There’s a cuckoo in my neighbourhood who is quite regular in the early hours. I swear it is so annoying when you just want to pull the covers over your head and snuggle back in bed!

  8. I love living on the west coast, but I swear, dawn comes much earlier here. Or the birds are just too damn cheerful. Great post, Arden!

    1. Haha – Well if that’s true, then I guess I should be thankful the birds only wake me up at 7am 🙂

      1. *boggle* 7AM?? Ours start sometime in the 4AM hour in the summer. They may start later in the winter, but our featherless boy-chicks rarely let us sleep past 6AM any time of year…

      2. Yikes! I remember it starting early when I visited my sister but that’s insane… I think I’ll stay here.. Haha!

  9. The early bird gets the worm. LOL, I love the story. However, I can sleep through anything. I’m a true night owl that finds myself reluctantly waking at 5:30 or 6 am each day.
